Take your time when you eat. Eating fast makes you fat. Eat slowly to allow your mind to recognize when your body is full. We are so used to eating fast that the act of eating is like giving our body enough energy to work. Eating is not a tool, it’s more than that and you know it.
When you eat fast, you eat too much. This results in poor digestion, fat gain, and low satisfaction. You don’t appreciate what you eat because you are stressed out and your mind is elsewhere. The fact that you feel like the meal is over too soon gives you dissatisfaction that leads to the urge to eat more. Then you eat something else and a few minutes later you feel bloated.
We live in an environment where things have to go fast. So we try to optimize the time as best we can. But sometimes it damages our health. Eating fast or eating while walking or driving is not natural, it’s not comfortable. Here’s a study that shows fast eaters are up to 115% more likely than slow eaters to be obese.
Optimizing your time in another way to stay healthy is important. We have to deal with stress, the pressure of school or work. It’s not easy and no one will help you be healthy. No one, it’s your own responsibility.
Eating healthy food every day is a good step, eating slowly is the second step. You can see people struggling to lose weight when they diet. It takes 20 minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to send signals of fullness. After a meal, your gut suppresses a hormone called ghrelin. The function of ghrelin is to control your hunger. Then your body releases the satiety hormone and you don’t want to eat anymore.
You are not a machine, your organs, hormones, and brain need time to be processed. And that weather can change from day to day. Learning to listen to your body is essential for staying healthy. Your body doesn’t function the same as your father, mother, sister, brother, friends, etc.
Don’t compare yourself to others when you want a better body, it’s a waste of time. Everyone has a unique life with unique experiences.
Eating slowly helps you have better digestion, hydration, weight loss, or maintenance. It also makes you calmer, more in control, and reduces stress levels.
